Post Field

God blessed us with a very easy trip home! We got back without any problems. No baggage was lost, we were able to make our connecting flight despite our short layover, and no one had any difficulties in customs. We had a two and a half hour flight from Guatemala to Miami where we said goodbye to Linda. We then flew into Detroit from Miami and arrived somewhere around 10:30 Sunday evening. It also sounds like Chris and pat are feeling better after being a little sick at the end of the trip. Thank you everyone for the many prayers and for all the support you gave us along the way. God bless!

A Little Vacation

Yesterday (Thursday) we got out roofing project all finished. We also had another 50 kids come for the health and hygiene class.  We got started on painting and then finished the day with a nice dinner of ribs (and very good ones I might add). Today (Friday) we got to take a break from working and we went into Antigua, the original capital of Guatemala, and explored the area a bit. First we visited a coffee plantation were we got a tour through a music museum on the history of music in Guatemala, then we got a tour through the process of growing and roasting coffee beans. Then we went to the public market to explore and buy anything that caught our eye. Once we were done in the market we drove to the public square in Antigua to get ice cream and then returned back to Amatitlan. Sadly Chris Burgess was feeling sick today and was unable to go with us on the tour day, so keep him in your prayers for him to get better. We just have one more day of of painting and teaching the kids before

The Work Begins

Yesterd ay (Tuesday) we got to see the whole compound where we are staying at. We were shown the roofing project we would be working on and a few people went into town to buy supplies for it . After a little but of trial and error, we got the roofing started . Yesterday we also had the health and hygiene class on hand washing for the children and adults . A few people on the team went down to the local school to publicize that they would be having the class and 60 kids and 6 adults came . We also got an AMAZING dinner of pot roast with rice and fresh tortillas . Today (Wednesday) we started back on the project. We had to make a trip into town to get some more supplies, as it seems we will also have to do tomorrow as well,  and we just about finished the roof. Luckily we got ever thing put away just before the rain started and the roof held. All we have left to do is ad one more sheet to finish the roof as well as adding the gutter.
